beautiful child came to me
In a bundle of swaddling pink
They said it was sad news
What was I supposed to think
There were tears and anxiety
In a dark, beeping hospital room
Uncertainty, pain, panic, fear
And so much doom and gloom
But others just see qualities
Characteristic features
Medical anomalies
Hours and hours of therapies
They promised me loneliness
Shame, grief and heartache
An unrecognizable life
"It was just a horrible mistake"
I'm amazed at her sweetness, though
I ponder it as she sleeps
When she dreams in my arms
My heart dances, skips and leaps
There's no human devastation here
She's total perfection!
She's a divine plan
An undiscovered constellation
Oh, my goodness
That precious little face!
Her velvet skin, sweet baby smell
This child is no "mistake!"
Painted with a heavenly brush
A masterpiece from above
The untrained eye has trouble seeing
She's a cipher that spells love
As I release my unfounded fears
I'm just starting to understand
All the mysteries this child holds
In her creased little hand
