How My
Child Inspires Me - By
Cyndi Donner
My
name is Cyndi and I am the proud
parent of Amelia. You see, Rich and
I have a blended family with three
older kids: Alexus 12, Tabitha 10,
and Chase 9. Three years ago Rich
and I started thinking of the name
that we were going to name our daughter
and Amelia was going to be the perfect
name. A few months later we found
out that we were going to be having
a baby.
My pregnancy was very stressful.
We found out when I was four months
into the pregnancy that she had Down
syndrome. I was hurt, angry, and
felt very guilty. I was advised to
go see the wonderful people at MHDSA.

The next day I went there and met
with MHDSA staff. They were angels!
Rich and I did everything we could
to educate ourselves. In November
of 2006 Amelia was born... My
God is she beautiful!
Four months later to the day she
had open heart surgery so the doctors
could repair her ASD and VSD. Today
she is 21 months old and the most
amazing little person I have ever
known. She is going up and down the
stairs, communicating with us using
sign language, and cruising along
the furniture.
She has blessed our family in so
many ways that I don't see her diagnosis
when I look at her - I just see this
wonderful little angel that was given
to us for us to take care of. She
gets up every morning with the best
attitude and biggest smile on her
face and so happy to see all of us.
