Denver Metro Grandparents and Extended Family Group

Facilitated by:
Greg and Jeanne Robertson

About Our Community Group
The Denver metro grandparents and extended family group has been meeting for many years. There is no road map on "how to be" a grandparent or an aunt or uncle of a beautiful baby who happens to have an extra chromosome.

We want to get a message out to all family's who have children with Down syndrome. Yes, there is a Denver Metro Area Grandparents and Extended Family group that meets monthly and we invite any and all grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends of family to our next meeting. We typically meet the third Saturday of each month, 11:00am – 1:00pm at the MHDSA offices. Please call 303-797-1699 for details.

Members of the group all agree that the opportunity to listen, share, ask questions from a family member who has experienced the birth and new life of a baby with Down syndrome has helped us celebrate the new life in our own personal journey. It also helps us understand and connect a little better with our daughters and sons and their extended families.

Most of us in the group live in the Denver Metro area. Some of us have family members with Down syndrome living in another state. This is a terrific way to stay connected to the Down syndrome family. We welcome you to join us. It is an opportunity to help our children, extended family and ourselves as we adjust to their new lives. We have met monthly and shared many wonderful stories, with tears, laughter and a lot of love. We have learned together in our journey that many of our fears, hopes, wishes and laughter are not much different from many others. It's just that some of our grandchildren have an extra chromosome. We think that makes them extra special.

Our meetings are open, we listen, we laugh, compare notes about doctor appointments, we hear what our children and grandchildren are going through at school, their friends, soccer teams, and therapy. We share and learn about new experiences like horse therapy, girl scouts and boy scouts, swimming for children with Down syndrome, schools, counties and communities offer. There is always something new. Sometimes we meet for breakfast and just socialize. It's just good friendships. There are no judgments about anyone. We are as unique as our grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Don't miss out on this opportunity for your daughter or son, your grandchildren, and mostly for you!

Please feel free to contact any of us to talk at any time.

Call any grandparent listed with any questions, or comments. We are here to listen, share experiences, answer questions and offer support.
